Where the Trail Leads

At the end of the trail, most of our guests choose one of two fantastic options to round out their trip:

1. Discover Casper Bluff
Many riders choose to head up to the Casper Bluff Land and Water Reserve. This stunning 85-acre reserve is a true hidden gem. It features sweeping, panoramic views of the Mississippi River and its backwaters. Beyond the natural beauty, Casper Bluff is rich in history. It is home to numerous Native American burial mounds, including the famous Thunderbird effigy mound╬ô├ç├╢the only known mound of its kind in Illinois. It’s a peaceful, awe-inspiring place to explore and connect with the history of the land.

2. Visit Chestnut Mountain Resort
Alternatively, you can take the access road down behind Chestnut Mountain Resort. You can even take the ski lift up the mountain for a spectacular view of the river valley! Leave your bike at the lift, get lunch, and take the Alpine slide back down. If you want to spend more time exploring Chestnut Mountain’s other summer activities like the Soaring Eagle Zipline, we highly recommend our all-day rental option so you don’t have to rush!

The Perfect 2-Hour Trip

Whether you choose to explore the ancient mounds at Casper Bluff or take in the views from Chestnut Mountain, the entire experience makes for a fantastic 2-hour trip. It’s the perfect way to spend a spring morning or afternoon in Galena.
